Denali National ParkDenali National Park is the crown jewel of Alaska. At 6 million acres, the park is larger than the state of Massachusetts. Alaska's most famous wildlife lives here including grizzly and black bears, moose, caribou, wolves, Dall sheep, red fox and arctic hares as well as bird life galore. Since there are no trees in most of the park, the wildlife viewing is great. The park is also home to the 20,320 foot Mt. McKinley known to locals as Denali "the great one" or "the high one". It is the highest point in North America. Views of Denali from within the park are very impressive. Some believe that the 18,000 feet vertical rise on the north side of the mountain (viewable from the park road) makes Denali the largest land-based mountain in the world. We spend two full days camped near the entrance to the park in order to take advantage of the many activities available in the area. One full day is set aside for a wildlife bus tour into the heart of the park (no private vehicles allowed), included in your tour cost. Board the bus in the morning and join in the search for wildlife as you travel deeper into the park and closer to "the mountain". Your bus driver will share their knowledge of the park and will stop for wildlife and photo opportunities. Or you can get off the bus and go for a hike on the spongy treeless tundra. This is wild and magnificent country! The second day is free for recreational activities of your choosing. Some people decide to travel back into the park on the bus while others prefer to choose among the variety of recreational opportunities available near the park entrance. HikingMany day hikes are available near the entrance to the park. Highlights include beaver lodges and breathe taking views. Or take the bus back into the park for a more remote and challenging hiking experience. River RaftingRaft the Nenana River. Enjoy the 2 hour scenic float, 2 hour class III-IV whitewater or the full 4 hour trip. Paddle rafts and oar rafts are available. Flight SeeingFly to Denali if weather permits. This is your chance to get up close and personal with some of the largest mountains in the world! The impressive views make this trip a highlight for all. Horseback RidingA trip into the backcountry on the back of a horse is an unforgettable experience. Mountain BikingRent a Mt. bike locally, put it on the Denali park bus and shuttle into the park for a scenic ride back. Sled Dog Kennel ToursVisit an active dog kennel and learn about dog sledding as a sport and as a working lifestyle in the Alaskan backcountry.
